The Study of Oriental Medical Assistance in Athletes¡¯ Village during The 22nd Universiade 2003 Daegu Korea

Abstract
Objective: This study was designed to find out characteristics of patients who had visited oriental medical clinic in athletes¡¯ village during the 22nd Universiade 2003 Daegu Korea and provide basic data for planning future sports events.

Methods: We statistically analyzed characteristics and medical data in 570 patients who had visited oriental medical clinic in athletes¡¯ village during the 22nd Universiade 2003 Daegu Korea from 14, August, 2003 to 3, September, 2003.

Results and Conclusions: 1. In distribution of sex, the rate of male was 49.3%, and that of female was 50.7%.
2. In distribution of nationality, most of patients were korean and the patients of Ireland, Mexico, Portugal were also many. In distribution of Continent, most of patients were Asian and most of countries were Europe.
3. In distribution of patient`s type, most of patients were official, followed by athlete.
4. In distribution of the first visiting date, the most of patients had visited on 18, August. and after 28, August, the number of first visiting patient was decreased.
5. In distribution of the days of treatment, the rate of patients had treated only onetime was 62.5%, and that of patients had
treated over-twice was 37.5%.
6. In the sports event distribution of athletes, the number of athletics was the most, followed by football.
7. In distribution of disease, the number of low back pain was the most, followed by shoulder joint pain.
8. In distribution of treatment method, the number of Acupuncture, cupping & physical treatment was the most, followed by
Acupuncture & physical treatment.
9. In distribution of treatment effect according to Roubin¡¯s Diagnosis, the rate of ¡¯fair¡¯ was the most, followed by ¡¯good¡¯. In
distribution of treatment effect according to Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), the rate of VAS 5 was the most, followed by VAS 7.
